Congragulations Robey!!!!

Robey Theatre Company receives grant recognition

News by LA Stage Alliance | June 10, 2010

The Robey Theatre Company is Los Angeles’ long established and much acclaimed group of artists devoted to the cultural exploration of the global Black experience. It has offices and performs at downtown’s Los Angeles Theatre Center (LATC), in the city’s Historic Core.

The California Community Foundation has selected Robey among a chosen few ethnically-specific organizations to receive CCF continuing support and is awarding Robey a grant of $70,000 over a two-year period. This will be the third and fourth year of an ongoing project: Strengthening Our Capacity- Building Culture in Los Angeles.

Funds will be utilized to execute a strategic plan crafted during the previous two years designed to strengthen the internal structure of the organization. The effect of the new grant is to support a new administrative infrastructure while giving Robey access to technical assistance.

Robey Theatre Company, named for actor and activist Paul Robeson, was founded in 1994 by international star Danny Glover and current Artistic Director Ben Guillory. Last month, Guillory received the Award from Playwrights Arena for Outstanding Contribution to Los Angeles Theatre.
